Frequently asked questions

How is Happy Tails Happy Homes (HTHH) different from a shelter?

Our animals are not kept in kennels. We are a 100% home-foster, no-kill volunteer organization.

What type of animals does HTHH accept?

We primarily accept dogs. However, we do have limited resources for other types of animals. Please contact us and someone will get back to you.

I just sent an email/filled out the form about re-homing my dog. how soon will I be contacted?

Since we are all volunteers, it can sometimes take a few days for us to get back to you on re-homing your dog. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

How do I become involved and help?

Please view our Volunteer or Foster Pages and let us know what you would like to do. We'd love to have your support!

What is your foster process?

Check out our Foster Page for all the details and FAQs about fostering a dog with Happy Tails Happy Homes.

I saw a dog listed on another website that says it's in your care. What is the application process?

The first thing you need to do is fill out our adoption application. We will review it to see if your family might be a good fit for the animal. Selected applications with be contacted for a phone interview. When a fit seems likely, we’ll schedule a meet and greet with the dog. We apologize that we do not have enough volunteers to reply to every application. Thank you for your understanding.

Will the dog be spayed/neutered when I bring them home?

Our veterinarian recommendation is to spay/neuter dogs between 6 and 12 months old. For some larger breeds, we postpone neuter/spay based on veterinary recommendation. All puppies and dogs who are not spayed/neutered at the time of adoption will need to pay an additional $250 deposit. This deposit helps guarantee responsible spaying/neutering to stop the constant strain of unwanted animals in our community.

Once the dog has been spayed/neutered at the appropriate age, submit proof of procedure from your veterinarian to info@happytailshappyhomes.org and submit the Spay/Neuter Deposit Return Form. Your reimbursement will be sent out within 10 business days.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Happy Tails Happy Homes is a 501 (c)3 organization and we’ll send you a receipt with our tax ID# (EIN 27-5325873).

What is your adoption fee and what does it cover?

Adoption fees are $375 for dogs until age 18 months, and $325 for dogs over 18 months. It covers spay or neuter for dogs over 6 months old, first shots (current at time of adoption), and a microchip. Adopter is responsible for remaining shots and regular veterinary care after adoption is finalized.
